Back from the brink: How ‘end of life’ for linen can be the start of a new one

Everyone’s still talking about textile waste. There’s a lot of it and not just from fast fashion. But things are changing!

According to the Textile Services Association, a shocking 55% of hospitality linen is discarded before it is six months old.

However, more players in the industry are realising that doesn’t have to be the case.

And they are looking to Regenex to help them love their linen for longer.

We’re in exciting times. Strong and serviceable items that would have been labelled ‘end of life’ are now starting whole new ones.

We are enjoying our growing reputation as the ‘go to’ guys for reviving tired textiles that still have a lot of potential life left.

We built our name on restoring pristine whites of marked or discoloured bedding and towels for hotels, holiday lets and the healthcare sector.

But we also take on bespoke overdyeing work, devising bespoke solutions for eco-conscious clients – and this is our area of operation that’s been growing and diversifying recently.

A lot of this work is new and experimental, and as such we can’t talk about it yet!

But we’re forging partnerships with start-ups and established companies that are transforming lacklustre but strong and serviceable textiles for new uses. They include:

  • A company repurposing old household textiles into new garments – and setting Instagram alight with their creative possibilities that are really catching a fashion zeitgeist.
  • A major laundry group asking for thousands of kilos of worn sheets and towels to be overdyed bright yellow for use as cleaning cloths, saving both carbon and money.
  • A hospitality brand transforming discoloured white towels to a smart, mid-grey for use in spa and other leisure facilities.

So, is that linen in the bin really ‘end of life’? Or could it be the start of a new life?

Regenex can help laundries and hospitality brands with new uses for old linen. Call our technical director Paul Hamilton on 07795 693345 or email paulhamilton@bulmerandlumb.com.
